High-speed Alimak Scando 650 FC-S construction hoist is providing easy access during construction of the supertall skyscraper in the Dubai Marina.
Introduction
Contractor Arabtec Construction Co. opted to use two new high speed Alimak construction hoist systems with dual cars. The two Alimak Scando 650 systems, with a total of four hoist cars, are being used in the construction of the Ocean Heights 1 in the Dubai Marina located in the heart of what is being called “the new Dubai”.
Challenge
The ultra-fast 100 m/min speed of the Alimak Scando 650 FC-S minimizes the time spent transporting people and materials to the current workfaces, while a generous 2,800 kg payload capacity and 3.9 meter car length ensure that the hoists can cope with even the largest load requirements. The hoists are equipped with the Alimak frequency control drive system, which provides smoother stopping and starting, making it ideal for use on buildings with many levels.
The Alimak Scando 650 FC-S has no counterweight and can use the entire line of modules and additions available for the 650 range. It can be delivered with standard modules to suit all known project demands for vertical access, from low to extreme high-rise buildings.
Solution
Available in single or dual car configurations, the new high-speed hoist offers payloads ranging from 2,400 kg to 3,200 kg/car and operates at speeds of up to 100 m/min. Three frequency control motors drive the system through a high efficiency gearbox. Speed and reliability are increasingly important features in large and complex building projects, and the Alimak Scando hoists deliver both.
Conclusion
Ocean Heights 1 will stand 310 m tall and will have 82 floors. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2010. The tower, which features unique curves and a twisting structure, is owned by DAMAC Properties Co. and will consist of 672 luxury apartments. Ocean Heights 1 is the first phase of the two-building Ocean Heights complex. The second tower, Ocean Heights 2, is a proposed supertall skyscraper that could have as many as 105 floors and be 460 m tall.
Adding to the already impressive number of Alimak Hek units in use in Dubai, additional construction projects planned for the Dubai Marina will utilize another eight hoists, including five Alimak Scando 650 FC-S high speed hoists and three medium-speed Scando 650 hoists.
